Three social media users have been ordered into custody after police traced clips showing them mouthing vulgar phrases and making rude gestures before their online followers.
The Public Prosecution said it received three separate reports from the Cybercrime Directorate, part of the Ministry of Interior, following a review of recordings uploaded to one of the platforms.
In each case, the material was deemed offensive to public decency.
The suspects were summoned, questioned, and shown the videos.
Contents
According to the prosecution, all admitted to the contents and their part in recording and publishing the material.
Each has been held on remand for seven days while inquiries continue.
Investigators have also confiscated the mobile phones used in filming the clips.
Substance
The Chief of the Cybercrime Prosecution urged social media users to mind the tone and substance of what they post.
Content that breaches public decency or offends the moral sense of the community, she said, is liable to prosecution.
She added that action would be taken against anyone sharing such material, including steps to block its spread and press charges against those behind it.
