A string of new public works is set to begin in Muharraq, with plans focused on reviving older neighbourhoods (Firjan) and strengthening the city’s streets, parks and services while keeping its time-worn character intact.

Abdulaziz Al Naar, Chairman of the Muharraq Municipal Council, said the coming phase includes widening roads, building new parking areas, adding green spaces and upgrading public facilities across several quarters.

The goal, he said, is to improve daily life without losing the city’s old-world charm. One of the main items on the list is the restoration of Isa Al Kabeer Palace.

The council has recently reviewed updates on this and other projects, all part of a broader push to breathe new life into Muharraq’s historic core.

Coordination with government bodies is ongoing to ensure the works move ahead on schedule, Al Naar said.

He added that these efforts match wider goals for urban areas across Bahrain and that Muharraq’s distinct shape and spirit should be preserved.
